The kids are obsessed with "Fiesta" (or, according to R., the "Pee-esta song"), the raucous, faux Spanish song by the Irish band the Pogues.
"I am Francisco Vasquez Garcia,
I am welcome to Almeria
..."
It’s a fairly nonsensical song that nonetheless kept me and my roommate and best friend Holly, well, pretty festive on many nights in college. We even made a party tape that became legendary called the Fiesta Tape. Fast-forward sixteen years and imagine to two little kids just jamming with reckless abandon to drunken Shane MacGowan (and belting out slightly questionable lyrics), and you can understand how hilarious our evenings have been lately. The band’s now a recurring favorite on our iTunes mixes, which has reminded me why I loved this band with all my heart when I was young and drank many a pint in salute of its lyrical rebellion.
"Come all you rambling boys of pleasure,
And ladies of easy leisure.
We must say Adios! until we see
Almeria once again.
